The Vinanmek Palace in Bangkok, Thailand continues to be the largest golden teakwood mansion. Original constructed in 1900 under the orders of King Rama V, this mansion has been renovated many times up until 1982, when it became a museum to honor King Rama V with his photographs, personal art, and to showcase the country’s national heritage.
Save for the stucco foundation, the rest of the palace is made of golden teakwood, an absolute rarity these days.
This teak palace was constructed in the shape of an “L” and features 31 rooms. Most of the Vinamek Teak Palace is three stories, save for the octagonal wing which includes an additional story that King Rama V used for his quarters.
The Vinamek Teak Palace was only used for five years until King Rama moved his residence to Amphorn Satharn Villa in 1906, where he lived until his death. Up until 1982 when the teak palace became a museum, the home was used to store royal possessions.
